Police Pursuit Ends on 101 Freeway After Cutting Off Motorcycle

Officers from the Baldwin Park Police Department were pursuing a suspected stolen vehicle on Saturday night at approximately 8:45 p.m.

Meghan Reyes and Newschopper4 Bravo were overhead as the vehicle moved into Sherman Oaks and continued west on the 101 Freeway.

The driver hit high speeds, over 100 mph, and was driving erratically. As a result, the Baldwin Park Police Department dropped back and stopped chasing the driver, likely hoping that the vehicle would slow down and not put other motorists in danger.

At one point, the driver appeared to make contact with a motorcycle. The biker proceeded to tail the pursuit vehicle, creating an even more dangerous situation.

As the driver arrived in the Thousand Oaks area on the 101 Freeway westbound, California Highway Patrol resumed the chase on the ground. The police helicopter had been following from the air, but ground units had fallen off for a short period of time.

Soon after ground vehicles were in pursuit, at approximately 9:15 p.m., the vehicle slowed down and came to a stop. The vehicle apparently ran out of gas. From there, the incident caused a traffic backup on the 101 Freeway, but the three people inside the suspected stolen vehicle complied with CHP officers' instructions to end the pursuit without further incident.

The driver was the first person to exit the vehicle. The male suspect followed the CHP's orders and was promptly arrested. Soon after, a second person exited the vehicle and also complied with instructions, followed by a third suspect out of the back seat.
