Steve Soboroff Joins LA's Endeavour Team

Business and community leader Steve Soboroff has been chosen as the senior advisor for the arrival and exhibit of the Space Shuttle Orbiter Endeavour at the California Science Center.

Soboroff has been involved in many projects in Los Angeles, including the Staples Center, various parks and schools and the Expo Center.

"It's a monumental project, and Steve Soboroff, with his vast experience in stewarding into existence some of the most exceptional projects in our city, will make a great senior advisor," Center President Jeffrey N. Rudolph and Foundation board chair Tom Soto said in a joint statement released Monday.

A news conference will be held Oct. 11 to give information about the shuttle's title transfer-signing from NASA to the California Science Center Foundation, said center spokeswoman Shell Amega.

"There will be four astronauts along with Commander Mark Kelly available for questions," Amega said.

Amega said the mayor will be in attendance and there's hope Gov. Jerry Brown will attend.

"I like to help make good things happen in Los Angeles," Soboroff said in the statement. "What Staples Center did for downtown is what the Endeavour promises do for the Exposition Park area, downtown, and all of Southern California."

NASA announced April 12 the Science Center was chosen to receive the $1.7 billion spaceship. It completed its last mission in the summer of 2010.

Endeavour flew 25 missions and will return to Southern California where it was built 20 years ago. It will be flown to Los Angeles International airport on top of a NASA 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft after it has been prepared for exhibit.
