VALENCIA, Calif. -- Six Flags Magic Mountain announced Wednesday that it is adding a 16th roller coaster to its collection at the Valencia theme park, set to debut next spring.
The wooden roller coaster, "Terminator: The Coaster," is being developed by the same team that produced the new "X2" experience.
Its debut will be scheduled to coincide with the release of the McG-directed "Terminator Salvation," the fourth installment in the "Terminator" franchise. Production recently wrapped on the film, starring Christian Bale.
"Designed around the theme of the successful 'Terminator' movie brand, this ride will draw thrill seekers from around the world," said Jay Thomas, president of Six Flags Magic Mountain.
The $10 million coaster, engineered for the Valencia amusement park by Great Coasters International Inc., will feature a loading station "fly-thru" and "unique queue line and on-board entertainment elements," according to Six Flags.
"The GCII-designed Millennium Flyer coaster trains will zip through five belly-flopping hills and six high-speed banked turns over 2,850 feet of track to create a ride that delivers the acrobatic thrills of a modern roller coaster while retaining the nostalgic look and feel of a classic 'woodie,"' a Six Flag statement says.
The coaster will be located in the northwest corner of the park, next to "Deja Vu."
