The sixteenth day of the month of December has many laudable attributes, but let us acknowledge one that may go unseen and unsung in many quarters: It's National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day.
So obviously, and cheekily, we're joshing about the "unseen" and "unsung" part, for outlandish holiday cardigans and turtlenecks are now as mandatory at a merry party as a punch bowl brimming with egg nog.
And while there are public places to rock your eyesore of a loud sweater in the days ahead — and, let's be clear, it is a charming eyesore, as is the nature of the seasonal sweater — there's a way to mark National Ugly Christmas Sweater Day and find a new forever friend.
Local news from across Southern California
It's the Michelson Found Animals Foundation's Adopt & Shop Facebook live event, an event that's going to take on a holiday telethon vibe as adoptable cutie after adoptable cutie dons a loud yuletide sweater and appears on camera.
You know the Adopt & Shop in Culver City, surely, if you dig all sorts of local canine and feline causes. That'll be the place for this parade of sweater-bedecked sweethearts, a parade that'll last from noon to 3 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16.
How to see these ready-for-a-home cats and hounds? Just go to the Found Animals Facebook page beginning at noon to meet these sweet, sweater-wearing critters.
If you see a kitten or pup that captures your heart, look into starting the adoption process or make a donation to help with the pup's care while she awaits her forever family. It's as easy, and as warming to the heart, as that.
As for warming yourself while rocking your own Ugly Christmas Sweater? You're encouraged to wear one at the free Cocoa Concerts at Union Station (there are two more dates to go, Dec. 16 and 23) while Del Frisco's Grille in Santa Monica is throwing an Ugly Sweater Party on Saturday, Dec. 17.
