Four Injured in Long Beach Electrical Vault Explosion

Firefighters rescued two men who were still in the underground vault near Golden Shore and West Seaside Way

An explosion in an underground electrical vault in Long Beach injured four people Tuesday morning.

Officers heard an explosion around 4:10 a.m. near Golden Shore and West Seaside Way, according to Lt. Tony Lopez of the Long Beach Police Department. A crew was working in an underground vault at that location when the explosion occurred.

Firefighters rescued two men who were still in the vault. Four people were hospitalized, but details about their conditions were not immediately available.

The injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, police said. One other person was treated at the scene.

The cause of the explosion was under investigation.
