The Muppets are certainly no Lady Gaga, but they have joined her as one of Google's celebrity endorsements -- but this time the Muppets are touting the pleasures of Google+, namely its Hangouts, in a national commercial.
It's not the first time for the Muppets and Hangouts. They had a live Hangout on Google+ last month, notably to promote their film, "The Muppets" and launch their brand on the social network. The commercial features several muppets (such as Kermit, the Swedish Chef, Animal and Miss Piggy) doing a jam session to Queen's "Under Pressure" on Google Hangouts.
The choice of the Muppets for the commercial is on two different levels: one for younger viewers, but also their parents (and now grandparents) who grew up with Sesame Street and the Muppets. Why else use Queen's "Under Pressure," a song from 1981?

But will the Muppets attract new users to Google+? Last month we wrote about how the fledgling social network has conflicting reports on its user numbers, and that at least an account by the Los Angeles Times called it a failure. With this new campaign, added to other eclectic icons on Google+ such as Britney Spears and the Dalai Lama, how could it not attract new users? Google's ad campaigns now seem to have a celebrity for everyone.
