A North Carolina politican caught flak Thursday after writing a Facebook post that compared former President Abraham Lincoln to Adolf Hitler, NBC News reported.
State Rep. Larry Pittman said Lincoln was a "tyrant" just like the German leader. Pittman was replying to a critic who wrote, "The Civil War is over... Get over it."
Pittman responded: "And if Hitler had won, should the world just get over it? Lincoln was the same sort (of) tyrant, and personally responsible for the deaths of over 800,000 Americans in a war that was unnecessary and unconstitutional."
Though the statement from Pittman seems to have been removed from his Facebook page, commenters continued to leave messages of displeasure, including calling him a "warm pile of garbage."
