The commercial building was located across an alley from Eastmont Intermediate School

Officers found 700 marijuana plants worth about $300,000 at a commercial property in Montebello across an alley near a middle school, according to police.

Investigators served a search warrant about 5 p.m. on Tuesday at the property in  the 3300 block of West Beverly Boulevard, police said. The property is next to Eastmont Intermediate School.

Once inside the property, investigators found a fully operational marijuana grow with artificial lighting, ventilating fans, a temperature control and odor control system, and soil for the plants, police said.

Two people were arrested in connection with the property and charges were pending. There was no indication that the subjects interacted with students at the school, police said.
