Missing Dog Found Safe After Explosion Rocks San Clemente Neighborhood

An explosion at a home in San Clemente left one dog missing for several hours and destroyed three vehicles, including a classic Porsche, early Thursday, according to the Orange County Fire Department.

Authorities responded to the blast and fire at 2:55 a.m. in the 100 block of Avenida Dolores. A man and woman who were inside when the fire broke out escaped with their German shepherd.

The couple's chocolate Labrador retriever, Coco, was missing early Thursday, but later turned up in the neighborhood after a few stressful hours for her owners.

Neighbors said the awoke to the jarring sound of the blast. 

"There was such a loud bomb-type explosion," said neighbor Carice Blazo. "The house shook."

Although officials discovered a ruptured gas line, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

"The flames were higher than our roof," said neighbor Don Bassett. "It scared us. It's such a nice, quiet neighborhood and everybody knows everybody. It's a shame."

Approximately 30 firefighters arrived at the scene to extinguish the flames. One of the cars destoyed in the fire was a 1960s Porsche 356 coupe.
