Magill Has Historically Bad Outing In 7-2 Loss

Hyun-Jin Ryu misses start with a bruised foot

Matt Magill gave up nine walks and four home runs on Sunday in the 7-2 loss in Colorado.

Hyun-jin Ryu missed the start with a bruised foot he suffered from a comeback line-drive on Tuesday. He should be ready to go in time for his start next week against Atlanta.

Matt Magill was called up from AAA to fill in for him. In four major league starts prior to Sunday Magill was 0-0 with 11 runs allowed, 13 walks and 19 strikeouts in 18 innings.

The Dodgers bullpen was used heavily in the first two games of the series, throwing 7.1 innings and 105 pitches, so Magill was left out to dry despite allowing nine walks and four home runs in six innings.

Matt Magill's biggest concern as a big league pitcher thus far has been his pitch control. In the first two innings alone he pitched five batters into a three-ball count, and had walked four.

On top of the walks, he gave up two home runs to Dexter Fowler, and solo jacks to Todd Helton and Michael Cuddyer.

Magill became the first pitcher since 1916 to allow four home runs and nine walks in a single game.

With two home runs on Sunday, Dexter Fowler proved to be a powerful force against the Dodgers. In the series he had 7 hits and 5 RBIs.

The Dodgers bats were quiet again, scoring only two runs on six hits.

In the second inning Skip Schumaker hit an RBI double to bring in Andre Ethier and Luis Cruz. In three games in Colorado Schumaker went 6-13 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Ethier's second-inning single was his only hit in the series, going 1-12.

The Dodgers head back to Los Angeles for a three-game series with San Diego starting on Monday. They will play their next ten games at home.

The last time they faced the Padres the Dodgers were swept. They send Chris Capuano, Ted Lilly and Clayton Kershaw and hope to avoid similar results against their NL West rival this time around.
