4 in Custody, 1 Sought Near Cal Poly Pomona

A campus housing area at Cal Poly Pomona was placed on lockdown Thursday evening as deputies searched for suspects who ran from a crashed stolen vehicle.

The crash occurred about 4:20 p.m. in the area of Valley Boulevard and Temple Avenue on the border of Pomona and unincorporated Avocado Heights, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and reports from the scene.

Those whose cars were hit were shocked.

"When they got out of the car, they tried opening the doors to my car, the front door," said Jose Valles. "And then they took off down that way toward school."

Shaidyn Grcs was boxed in.

"I tried to move my car as far as possible ... Nowhere to go when there's three lanes of traffic," Grcs said.

Four of the five suspects were apprehended as deputies searched the University Village campus housing area at the southern end of the university, where students, faculty and staff were advised to shelter in place, according to reports and tweets issued by the university.

A nearby mobile home park was also being searched.

Authorities set up a containment but the remaining suspect was not located.

Anyone with information regarding the incident was asked to call the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department at 213-229-1700.
