A 2-year-old girl was in serious condition after she and her mother were struck by a car in North Hollywood on Sunday morning.

The crash took place about 10:30 a.m. as they were crossing Burbank Boulevard at Bakman Avenue (map) in an unmarked intersection, Los Angeles police said.
Witnesses said the driver of a Toyota sedan appeared to be going the speed limit and may have been trying to avoid another car when she accidentally hit the mother and daughter. The impact threw the pedestrians about 10 feet across the street.
According to witnesses, two good Samaritans helped get the toddler out from under the car, where she was trapped.
The victims were taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where the girl was in serious condition and mother was in fair condition.
