Two Arrested in Death of Man Found Shot to Death in Car

Both men were being held on 2 million dollars bail Sunday.

After a man was shot to death in Covina Saturday while sitting inside a vehicle driven by his friend, authorities announced they had arrested two men on Sunday.

The shooting was reported at 11:50 a.m. in the 800 block of West San Bernardino Road, according to Covina police Sgt. Gregg Peterson.

"After the shooting, the victim's friend drove away from the location and into the parking lot of Faith Community Church in the city of West Covina," Peterson said.

The man was pronounced dead in the parking lot, he said.

The victim was later identified as 20-year-old Issac Urena of Covina, according to the Covina Police Department. Police said it appeared that Urena was killed during a robbery that took place after a meeting was arranged on Offerup, an online marketplace app.

Overnight, Adam Hernandez, 21, and another man were arrested when a search warrant was served at a residence in the 1400 block of North Armel Drive in Covina, police announced Sunday. One man was released with no charges as of Sunday, while Hernandez was charged with investigation of robbery and murder.

Another search warrant was served at a resident on the 1200 block of North O'Malley Avenue in Covina by Covina Police Department's Special Response Team, police added. Christopher Avila, 20, was arrested at the residence and was booked for investigation of robbery and murder.

Both men were being held on 2 million dollars bail Sunday.

Because the shooting occurred in Covina, that police department is investigating, Peterson said.

Anyone with information about the shooting was asked to call detectives at (626) 384-5628 or the watch commander at (626) 384-5665.
