dineLA Opens

Hundreds of restaurants, bevies of solid dining discounts. And go!

The pleasures of dineLA Restaurant Week, which opens for its summer fortnight on Monday, July 16, are threefold.

The first part of that fold? The planning. Whoever said anticipation isn't a major key to a fine meal out needs to rethink their stand. A fine meal out is enhanced by poring over the menu and circling the radish salad and the rock shrimp stir fry and thinking about eating those dishes days in advance.

The second part? The eating itself. But it isn't solely about the act of lifting fork to mouth; it is about being at a new restaurant and enjoying a new scene. And, yes, it is about the food, definitely.

And the third part? The savings. dineLA, which is on through Friday, July 27 (only skipping Saturday, July 21), is all about the prix fixe deals and discounts. We won't say getting the check is our favorite part, but we do like having three gourmet courses without breaking two twenties. A rare pleasure, indeed.

So, ready to start on part one? You'll want to eye the helpful dineLA map to find some places near you and you'll want to eye the extensive list of eateries, which include Little Next Door, Tavern, and Water Grill.

Our favorite planning tool, though? dineLA includes a lunch and/or dinner menu with each of its participating restaurants, meaning you can see the price and plates (this one from Eva on Beverly features jidori chicken and warm fennel soup).

And, yep, there will be some places that push the two twenties rule, but not by much.
