Rain sprinkles down on Mother's Day weekend in Hollywood, May 10, 2019.

There's a chance of showers and thunderstorms Friday through Mother’s Day Sunday.

NBC4 Meteorologist Shanna Mendiola said an area of low pressure is moving in from Nevada, making the first round of rain heavier over the deserts and mountains. That means there will be chances of lighter rain over lower elevations.

The chance of measurable precipitation is 50 percent Friday in Los Angeles and in Orange County but 70 percent in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Although there will be four days of occasionally wet weather, with brief heavy downpours and small hail and some roadway flooding, Shanna Mendiola said weather dries out Monday with slight warming into the new work week.
