About 8K SCE Customers Still in the Dark

Thousands of residents were still without power Tuesday as Southern California Edison worked to restore electricity.

Frustrations were starting to show, and one unhappy 72 year old customer in Pasadena was even arrested for threatening a city official over the delay.

By Tuesday evening, 7,924 homes in the San Gabriel Valley and foothills were still in the dark, according to the utility. At the peak of the outage, more than 220,000 SCE customers were affected.

Strong winds hit Southern California last week, toppling trees, destroying homes and businesses, and leaving some structures red tagged. The hardest-hit areas include Pasadena, Arcadia, Alhambra and Monrovia.

The cleanup effort has lasted for almost a week now, with hundreds of utility workers trying to restore power.

For SCE customers who believe the utility is liable for damage, including spoiled food, the utility has set up a process to file claims.

In Los Angeles, more than 200,000 LADWP customers also lost power as a result of the storm. LADWP was able to restore power to all its customers by Sunday, said LADWP spokeswoman Carol Tucker.

Although winds have started to die down, the cold weather remains. Morning temperatures around Los Angeles were in the low-40s and 30s for most areas. Calabasas was a brisk 28 degrees.
