FINDING SNOW... in Southern California? It happens fairly frequently, of course, in the higher elevations, up around our mountain peaks, and on particularly frosty days, down in the foothills, where a surprise layer of icing can send the kids (of all ages) out in search of a snowman-making opportunities. But there's some magical snow in the city, too, like around The Grove in the mid-city area, where fluffy faux snow creates a lively scene. But flake aficionados can also gaze upon the heart of Beverly Hills, too, and the Beverly Wilshire, A Four Seasons Hotel. You know where to go at the shopping center — right to the main grassy hub, a solid spot for the snow shows — but where does one find the frosty sight at a landmark hotel, one that is coming up upon its 90th anniversary? Look to the porte cochère for the nighttime sight and the "real snow" drifting down from above the heads of onlookers. Adding to the aura of the merry moment? Roasted chestnuts for snacking. There are more...
MERRY MOMENTS... to experience at the '20s-era grand hotel, including photographs taken in front of the life-sized gingerbread house (it is in the lobby, and, yes, you can stroll inside) and the 12-foot Douglas fir, a tree adorned with glittery baubles aplenty. Floral displays, too, give the whole swath of seasonal sights an extra air of fancy-a-tude. Can you buy gingerbread emoji cookies, created by none other than superstar pastry chef Chris Ford? You bet. And THE Blvd, the tony grab-a-bit spot at the hotel, the one that faces the boulevard (hence its name), is rocking a "winter wonderland" vibe right now. If you're hoping that the swanky hotel is offering special treats like fondue and super-rich cocoa (the kind created with 72% Valrhona chocolate), you're in some kind of luxe luck. But if a little rejuvenating time in this rush-rush month is what you require, seek out The 12 Days of Spa-liday at The Spa at Beverly Wilshire, which begin on Dec. 13, 2017. Some "reduced pricing" (a treat that doesn't come around too often) and "daily gifts" will add the fa and la and la to the experience.
