Downtown on Ice
Tai Babilonia and Snoopy present a free mini showcase of "It's Christmas, Snoopy!" at Downtown on Ice. Date? Tuesday, Dec. 3.
The holidays took a turn, lo about 1965.
Make that a pirouette, rather than turn. That's the year that "A Charlie Brown Christmas" debuted, and it hardly seems like the yuletide if we haven't, one and all, watched a certain floppy-eared pooch take a skate-less spin on a frozen pond to Vince Guaraldi's jazzy score.
But seeing Snoopy skate isn't just a television thing. You can watch it, live and in-person -- er, dog? -- on Tuesday, Dec. 3 when the comics-born canine stops by to twirl at Pershing Square.
Olympian Tai Babilonia joins the famous Fido on the Downtown on Ice rink for a special mini preview of "It's Christmas, Snoopy!" It's a Knott's Berry Farm production, yep yep, but you can get a sweet taste of the show at 4 p.m. on Dec. 3.
And yes, Snoopy does indeed wear skates at Downtown on Ice, unlike in the Peanuts Christmas special. Will he also be rocking a Santa outfit? Please. You know this dog. He's always got something up his sleeve. (Oh right, Snoopy doesn't usually wear clothing. Proverbial sleeve?)
It's free to watch.
But it isn't just about a celebrated Olympian and one of the planet's best-known pups skating the light fantastic. "(M)ore than 500 kids from local non-profit groups will skate for free immediately following the showcase presentation."
Fun, and a few tots'll surely take some of Snoopy's icy stylings into consideration as they head out into the rink. A few other skating stars are set to show, so call it a wintry, not-to-long downtown dessert of the free-to-watch sort.
It's December, so, indeed, it is time for the free festive stuff to step it up. Thanks, Snoopy, for taking the lead.
