‘Just Play It Cool': Disguised Robber Holds Up Jewelry Exchange Stores

A robber in a curly wig told employees at both stores, "Don't put your hands up."

Two Inland Empire police departments were investigating after surveillance cameras at two stores of a jewelry exchange company captured an armed robber wearing an unusual disguise.

Video from both Crown Gold Exhange locations in Corona and Chino each show a man in a curly-haired wig and what appeared to be women's designer sunglasses ordering employees and demanding cash and valuables.

"Don't put your hands up," he told the victims at both stores.

"Play it cool," he told a female employee at the Corona store.

NBC4 was not able to confirm Monday if the robber in both videos was the same person, but the man was wearing what looks like the same wig and sunglasses at both stores.

The female employee, who did not want to give her name, was working alone Monday at the Corona store on East Ontario Avenue.

"I kinda knew something was up," she said. "Something was off with him -- the way he was fumbling with his backpack and just the way he was dressed up."

The robber is seen on video from Friday telling two people in the Chino store to go to the back and to hand him cash and valuables.

The company's co-owner, Cesar Meyer, said the company's been targeted three times in the past three months, including a hold up that occurred back in October at the Hemet location. It's unclear whether the wig-wearing robber was a part of that incident.

"The way he was so calm and so brazen just makes me just so angry watching him do that and thinking he can get away with it," Meyer said.

Meyer said his stores don't carry a lot of cash and said the robber got away with only a couple hundred dollars.

He's offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the robber's arrest.
