What to Know
Tuesday, Aug. 6, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Admission, games, and turns on the Ferris wheel are free; food is additional
While plans for aerial trams, those above-the-ground gondolas connecting one place in a city to another not-too-distant place, do bubble up now and then, there is no sky ride that connects the Fairplex in Pomona to downtown Los Angeles.
We mean, that would be pretty sweet, especially those parts of the ride when you smoothly passed over the freeways below.
But the most famous Fairplex festival will find its way to DTLA on Tuesday, Aug. 6, when the Los Angeles County Fair pops up to stir up some celebratory, Ferris-fun thrills ahead of its Aug. 30 opening in Pomona.
And "pops up" is the right way to describe the free day, as the 2019 theme for the historic fair is the "LA County Fair Goes Pop!"
To revel in some of that flavor, and pre-excitement, stop by Grand Park from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Aug. 6 for a preview of what's to come at the soon-to-come three-week spectacular.
Admission is free to the Grand Park party, and the Ferris wheel, too.
As for games? You won't have to pay any money to try your hand at some midway-type challenges.
Do show with money, though, if you want to snack around, for yes, oh happy day, some quintessential cuisine, the kind you'll find at the LA County Fair, will be at the DTLA to-do, too.
So while no sky ride is yet connecting downtown with Pomona, there are ways for the famous fair to make its way west, all to delight Angelenos with a little pre-game playtime.
As for the actual main event itself, and not the preview pop-up? The LA County Fair blinks 'n twinkles at the Fairplex in Pomona from Aug. 30 to Sept. 22. It's closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, keep in mind, though it will be open on Labor Day, hooray.
