The Great Labor Day Cruise to wow fender fans in Costa Mesa on Sept. 1 and 2, 2018.

    • $15 one-day spectator admission; $8 parking

What makes a car especially "regal"?

The picture of a long and shiny vehicle, one with a gleaming walnut dash and velvet seats, may shimmer into your mind.

But, of course, "regal" is subjective, and could easily apply to any automobile that's weathered the decades well, that boasts some visual kapow and power under the hood, and that's well-loved by its owner.

And if those points apply, you can count on spying over 1,000 regal vehicles, from the wayback catalog o' cars, at the OC Fair & Event Center over the Saturday and Sunday of Labor Day Weekend.

That's when The Great Labor Day Cruise will again roll, regally and with auto-awesome oomph, and even if you don't have a car to enter, or want to leave your wheels well-garage'd, you can show up, as a spectator, and spectate for fifteen bucks (plus $8 for parking).

What you can expect to see?

Hold onto your steering wheel and pump the brakes, for a huge line-up of American cars made before 1987, and pre-1971 VWs, and a host of other cool machines, will cruise by oodles of admiring fans.

The route is 1.25 miles, given the cars room to stretch their legs... er, wheels.

It's the 36th year for The Great Labor Day Cruise, so count on returning favorites and a lot of people from a lot of points all over Southern California showing with their on-the-move works of art.

Hot rods? They'll be plentiful. The car you drove in high school? It could show, or something like it. A sweet style you may hanker for, in your own driveway? That happens.

Note that the cruise is on Sept. 1 and 2 only, and not the Monday of the holiday weekend, vroom vroom.
