These brand-new sweeties at Centennial Farm are getting a treat on Saturday, Aug. 4: Brass musicians from the Pacific Symphony will play for them.

    What to Know

    • Saturday, Aug. 4

    • 1 to 2 p.m.

    • OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa

Do piglets favor pieces by Pagnini?

Are bovines rather partial to the lullabies of Brahms?

And will a goat take a seat to savor every note in a Mozart piano sonata?

So many questions, so many composers, so many farm animals to interview on their varying classical tastes.

But one thing is for sure: The animals residing at Centennial Farm at the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa will enjoy a pop-up concert from the Pacific Symphony on Saturday, Aug. 4 at 1 o'clock in the awww-fternoon.

We say "awww" there because this musical presentation is for the piglets, the goats, the cows, and the sheep currently making a cozy, hay-filled home at the OC Fair.

Sure, absolutely, if you're a human, you'll want to turn an ear in the direction of the beautiful music, which will be played by the brass musicians of the lauded Orange County-based symphony.

The goats aren't stingy and the piglets would never dare keep such a delightful experience all to their curly-tailed selves. In fact, the lilting, brassy sounds are for all within the Centennial Farm area to enjoy during that time on that date.

Keith Popejoy, the principal French Horn player for the symphony, will be at the helm, and on the playlist? Music from "Carnival of Animals," of course, by Camille Saint-Saëns, as well as selections from "Star Wars" and "Frozen."

It's such sweet stuff, and a tad whimsical, and a lovely reminder that the Pacific Symphony has a date to play during a live performance of "E.T. The Extraterrestrial" at the OC Fair & Event Center on Saturday, Aug. 18. (The OC Fair ends on Sunday, Aug. 12.)

Ever heard symphonic music standing near a piglet, a sheep, a cow?

Here's your chance: Your admission to the OC Fair gains you entry to the Pacific Symphony appearance, which will surely draw a curious and appreciative human crowd well before 1 p.m. on Aug. 4.

For animals have long inspired composers; now a few lucky denizens of Centennial Farm will get to play audience for an hour, as music-makers create a swirl of sound for the critters' delight.

And, of course, need we remind you? We needn't, surely: PigCam at the OC Fair is live, which you already know, and are likely going to visit again at the end of this sentence.
