    • Butterfly Celebration on March 16 and 17; Butterfly Season opens on March 16

Painted Lady butterflies are (currently) zinging by our heads in what could be defined as "droves," the rain has (temporarily) gone, gone away for another day, and Southern California is gearing up for its poppy-prettiest, jacaranda-is-coming best.

It is, in short, the week before springtime arrives, and one of the springiest scenes on the tot-fun calendar is winging its way into Kidspace Children's Museum on Saturday, March 16 and Sunday, March 17.

That's when the 23rd Annual Butterfly Season kicks off at the Pasadena destination. A weekend-long Butterfly Celebration will get wings, we mean things, going, but there's more utterly butterfly-y doings to anticipate.

Like? Caterpillars will go up for adoption at the event, with a single caterpillar priced at $5.49 (you can purchase five for $19.99). Care instructions, caterpillar-yummy food, and an adoption certificate are part of your price, hurrah.

The point of this whimsical purchase?

To observe how a catty becomes buttery, or, more scientifically, the transformation from caterpillar to butterfly. Kidspace always holds a Butterfly Release later in the spring, and, if you buy a caterpillar during the caterpillar-buying window, you'll score three bucks off your admission to that special and uplifting event.

As for the Butterfly Celebration on March 16 and 17? The kick-off of all the catty cuteness? "DJ Bree Flower will take guests on a musical journey through the life cycle of the butterfly during 'opening ceremonies' starting at 1 p.m. each day."

The chance to make a butterfly kite (in order to "wave at opening ceremonies") as well as a butterfly puddler are also on the blitheful schedule.

It's full-on flutterby season, and Kidspace, as always, is the nectar-like nexus for those who dig this elegant and on-the-wind insect.

All of the time for both the two-day celebration and the longer caterpillar-adopting season? Fly by the site, now, for all of your beautiful B. Fly 411.
