Postal customers in South Pasadena reported their checks cashed and altered after a burglar broke into the U.S. Post Office earlier this month, according to police.
The South Pasadena Police Department alerted residents to the break-in on Wednesday, instructing them to review bank and credit card accounts for unauthorized activity.
The break-in occurred some time between 2 p.m. Saturday, July 13 and 1:38 a.m. Monday, July 15 at the post office at 1001 Fremont Ave. If you dropped off mail at the post office at this time, check your statements, police urged.
The burglar had pried open a door and gained entry to an employee area, according to the email from Detective Richard Lee.
It wasn’t clear at the time the theft was discovered what had been stolen, but several victims have since reported checks cashed or altered that had been dropped into the outgoing mail slot in the post office lobby, according to police.
If you have been a victim of this theft, call U.S. Postal Inspector Tony Yu at 877-876-2455.
