Firefighters were battling a fast-moving wildfire in the Cajon Pass that has grown to an estimated 200 acres within less than two hours.
Mandatory evacuations were ordered along Glen Helen Road west of Interstate 15, affecting 25 to 30 homes, officials said. Glen Helen Road was also closed west of Glen Helen Parkway.
Dubbed the Sierra Fire, the blaze was 0 percent contained as of as of 10 p.m. Some 425 firefighters were battling the flames.
The mandatory evacuations were expected to be lifted at midnight, after which voluntary evacuations will remain in place.
The blaze briefly threatened a nudist resort, which was inhabited mostly by senior citizens. Helicopter water drops spared the resort.
The fire was first reported at 3:51 p.m. along I-15 near Glen Helen Parkway in San Bernardino County. It has been moving quickly along dry chaparral in the rugged area.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
