Man Accused of Concealing Evidence in Murder Leads Pursuit

Rifle, drugs, and a bulletproof vest were recovered from the trunk at the end of the pursuit.

Police were pursuing a gray sedan on the streets of southeast Los Angeles Tuesday after the driver was accused of concealing evidence connected to a murder, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

The driver, in a car with Oregon license plates, was traveling on the wrong side of the road at certain points during the winding chase. Bystanders were also seen cheering the driver on as the sedan passed by.

LAPD said they believed the driver may be concealing evidence connected to a murder from more than a year ago. The person suspected of murder was taken into custody at 1200 East 100th Street at 12:18 p.m.

LAPD revealed the haul in the trunk of a driver wanted in connection with a murder. He led officers on a pursuit through Los Angeles after the LAPD believed he was concealing evidence connected to a murder Tuesday, April 18, 2017.

The driver stopped suddenly after officers deployed a spike strip, tossing the keys from the car and surrendering. Officers were seen combing through the trunk shortly thereafter.

"There's some evidence in the trunk of the car that may or may not be related to the murder investigation," LAPD Sgt. James Ransom said.

Officers recovered guns and narcotics.

"Rifle, drugs, a bulletproof vest. I mean, people were like, 'are you serious?'" said witness Jose Cabada.
