Nightclub Owner Killed in Front of Home While Sitting in Rolls Royce

Police are investigating the murder of a 67-year-old nightclub owner who was shot to death while he sat in his $300,000 Rolls Royce in front of his Baldwin Hills home.

The shooting happened about 2:30 a.m. near Hillcrest and Don Milagro drives, Los Angeles police Officer Brian Schneider of the Southwest Station said.

The victim, identified by police as Alonzo Ester, owner of the Dynasty Club in Inglewood, had returned home and was parked in front of his house. According to police, an unidentified suspect walked up to the passenger side of his 2011 Rolls Royce Phantom and fired.

The victim sustained two gunshot wounds to the chest and was taken to a local hospital. He was pronounced dead on arrival.

Friends and relatives said Ester's nickname was "Dickie," a father of twelve. They say he was often generous with his wealth and took care of everyone.

Several gathered near his canary yellow Mediterranean style home to mourn.

"Dickie always bought the best," said Mario Campbell, a distant relative who last spoke to him two days ago.

Police said a person in Ester's home reported hearing a gunshot around 2:30 a.m. and saw a man run away. Other witnesses said a dark-colored sedan fled the scene, Schneider said.

Ester's money clip had been emptied and was found on the ground. Investigators had determined the shooting was a homicide and were at the scene for further investigation, Schneider said.
