Mongol Outlaw Biker Sought in Freeway Shooting That Injured Motorcyclist

A man believed to be a member of the Mongols motorcycle gang is being sought in a freeway shooting Saturday that wounded a 30-year-old motorcyclist, police said.

The shooting happened about 1 p.m. near the interchange of the San Bernardino (10) and San Gabriel (605) freeways in Baldwin Park, according to the California Highway Patrol.

While riding at about 50 mph as they neared the 605, up to six members of the gang surrounded two motorcyclists, officials said.

Then one of the men began shooting at one of the riders on a Honda motorcycle, the CHP said in a news release.

That rider was struck in the right thigh. He and another rider got off the freeway and called 911.

The wounded rider was taken to a hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound, the CHP said.

His condition was not immediately known. The shooting prompted an hourlong shutdown while police investigated and collected evidence.

Two .380 caliber shell casings and shards of a bullet projectile were located in the area, officers said.

Police were searching for a man with an unknown tattoo on his forehead and a long pony tail.
