Man Charged With Attempted Murder in Del Amo Fashion Center Shooting

An 18-year-old Bellflower man accused in a gang-related shooting last month at the Del Amo Fashion Center that left one person wounded was charged Tuesday with attempted murder.

Jose Manuel Salazar is also charged with possession of a firearm with violation of probation, with allegations that he personally and intentionally discharged a handgun and that the crimes were committed for the benefit of a criminal street gang.

The shooting occurred a little before 3 p.m. on June 3 at the Torrance shopping mall. The victim was taken to a local hospital and later released, according to Torrance police Sgt. Ronald Harris.

Salazar was arrested about 1:15 a.m. Saturday after a traffic stop by Redondo Beach police. He provided police with a false name, according to Harris, who said Salazar was "positively identified'' during the booking process.
