A home intruder was booked for murder after officials say he fatally stabbed and beat a woman with a wrench and samurai sword on Wednesday afternoon. A man was also injured in the attack.
The incident occurred just after noon on the 6000 block of Temple City Blvd. in Temple City, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Sheriff's officials said the suspect attacked the couple inside their home. The suspect walked into the home and attacked the woman with a wrench, according to sheriff's Lt. John Corina. He then stabbed her with a samurai sword that was in the house, he added. When the man attempted to intervene, the suspect struck him with the sword as well.
When deputies arrived, they found a dead 40-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man suffering from stab wounds.
After an hour long search, a man surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody on the same street where the attack occurred. Investigators say the man -- whose identity has not been released -- appeared to be under the influence of drugs.
The woman died at the scene and the injured man was taken to a hospital and later released.
The names of the victims were not immediately available.
