Never Before Seen Photos of Marilyn Monroe

She was just 19 when people started taking her picture. She was still Norma Jean. She would go on to become Marilyn Monroe – one of the most iconic women in cultural history

She seemed to love the camera as much as the camera clearly loved her.

In celebration of what would have been Monroe’s 85th birthday, the Andrew Weiss Gallery will open an exhibit featuring photos by George Barris.

Barris spent years taking personal and behind the scenes photos of Monroe. Their last shoot together would be the last formal sitting of her life. It was a 1962 spread for Cosmopolitan Magazine.

The exhibit will also feature never before seen photographs from the set of  "Seven Year Itch." The 1954 film, directed by Billy Wilder, is where one of the most famous images of Monroe was captured - Monroe in white dress standing on a subway grate, wind blowing up her skirt.

The exhibit – which is free to the public - opens Thursday June 2, 2011 and runs through mid August.
