The Santa Monica Police Department asked for the public’s help Tuesday in identifying a man who allegedly punched a U.S. Marine in the face without provocation as the victim danced at a club.
The Marine, who has not been identified because he is the victim of a violent crime, was on the dancefloor at Zanzibar in Santa Monica just before midnight on Feb. 22.
The attacker, without provocation, approached the Marine and punched him in the face.
The victim ”lost consciousness for 10 to 15 minutes,” the Santa Monica Police Department said in the statement. The victim’s friend attempted to intervene after the attack, and also was assaulted.
The subject fled the club southbound on 5th Street and disappeared from view.
The victim suffered “major injuries to his head and face,” and was transported to a hospital where he underwent "several surgeries in an attempt to repair the damage."
Surveillance video captured an image of the attacker, who is described as being in his mid to late 30s, 6 to 6 feet 3 inches tall, weighing 230-270 pounds, with a shaved head, mustache and goatee.

The Santa Monica Police Department ask anyone with information about the assault to call (310) 458-8495. An anonymous tip line is also open at 1-800-782-7463.
CrimeStoppers, a non-profit organization that works with law enforcement to aid in solving crimes, offered a $1,000 reward to anyone who provides information leading to an arrest and conviction, according to the statement.
