Gunman Dead After Barricade in South Los Angeles Apartment Complex

A man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound early Thursday following a standoff with officials in South Los Angeles. 

The Los Angeles Police Department responded to a shooting at approximately 1:15 a.m. near San Pedro Street and Gage Avenue.

According to LAPD officers, the man allegedly fired shots into the air outside an apartment complex. The shots prompted police response, to which the gunman pointed his firearm at officers upon arrival.

Authorities fired rubber bullets at the man then he ran inside the apartment complex, where officers heard a single shot.

Arobot went inside the building after hours of officials attempting to make contact.

The shooter is a known gang member, according to authorities. He was 38-years-old. 

No injuries were reported.
