A fight broke out Thursday between some characters on Hollywood Boulevard sidewalks.
Tourists and Southland natives alike were treated to a show starring Catwoman in the leading role Thursday afternoon. But this time the performance was outside of the Kodak Theatre when a fight broke out between the characters on Hollywood Boulevard sidewalks.
Fire officials responded to a battery call around 5:30 p.m. to learn that a fight between Catwoman and an Ozzy Osbourne impersonator had ended with him getting pepper sprayed.
Initial reports identified a man dressed as Jack Sparrow of "Pirates of the Caribbean" as having been the victim.
Catwoman, who requested to be referred to as such, said two characters had been causing problems all day and seemed to be intoxicated. After warning them several times to stop interfering with her taking pictures, she told the men that she had mace and wasn’t afraid to use it.
"He was antagonizing me to do so, so I did," she said. "I said, 'I'm giving you fair warning. If you do not get away from me I will spray you in the face.'"
While they are not allowed to require payment, movie characters on Hollywood Boulevard can earn tips by taking photographs with visitors.
Catwoman said she was harassed all day long, as the pirate and alien pushed and bumped her while she was taking photos for or with people.
Another character wearing an alien mask was also involved in the incident, Catwoman said.
Willy Wonka, known as Jason off the Boulevard, corroborated Catwoman's story.
"She told him and told him and told him, and he continued to push her -- so there it was," he said.
The victim was not on the scene when police arrived, authorities said. No one was taken into custody, and none of the parties was transported to the hospital, the LAPD reported.
Almost immediately after the incident occurred, the Twitter-sphere was flooded with reports of the incident, many of which noted the quintessentially-L.A. nature of the story.
The tweets overwhelmingly referred to the characters as Catwoman, a pirate and an alien, which was also the description Catwoman gave NBC 4.
"Only on LA News.. 'LAPD respond to fight on Hollywood Blvd between Catwoman, a Pirate and an Alien,'" @tattedgirl Tweeted.
Others seemed to question the character brotherhood.
"Catwoman, a pirate, and an alien just got in a huge fight in hollywood in front of chinese theatre," according to a Tweet from @kirkfox. "Spiderman and batman just watched."
Catwoman said the altercation reflects poorly on the Boulevard characters, who are no strangers to brawls breaking out on their outdoor stage.
"We’re just trying to entertain the public, take pictures with the tourists, make them happy, you know," Catwoman said. "That’s what we come out here for."
Last year, Spongebob Squarepants was arrested after harassing two women on Hollywood Boulevard.
In 2009, Spider Man struck a man in the face and arms. The victim refused to press charges, but police arrested the character on outstanding misdemeanor warrants for Metro fare evasion.
And just two years earlier, a Chewbacca impersonator was accused of head-butting a Hollywood tour guide who warned him to stop harassing Japanese tourists.
