Oscar Flores was born and raised in the beautiful coastal city of Santa Barbara, about an hour and a half north of L.A., and at an early age developed a passion for news and video production after playing with his father’s old VHS camera, which eventually led Oscar to a career in news as a video journalist for the local ABC affiliate, KEYT.

Oscar developed other passions for technology and all things digital. That landed him a promotion at KEYT to run the station’s social media platforms and website writing news articles, often times keeping a police scanner, or two, on at home — thank goodness his wife works in news as well.

After more than a decade working in the Santa Barbara news market covering big stories such as the 2014 Isla Vista massacre, Thomas Fire that devastated Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties, and the subsequent deadly Montecito mudflow, Oscar began covering news in Los Angeles with FOX 11. Oscar is very excited to join the NBCLA  family and continue keeping the L.A. community and beyond informed.

In his spare time, Oscar loves producing live webcasts, learning about the latest tech, keeping up his photography skills, and spending time with his wife and little energetic Cocker Spaniel exploring the wonderful culinary scene Southern California has to offer.
