Kim Baldonado is an Emmy Award-winning reporter for the "Channel 4 News," specializing in education issues.

Kim Baldonado anchors the weekday editions of the “Midday Report” (airing 11AM – 11:30AM) and Channel 4’s “News Extra” (11:30PM - Weekly half-hour on Sundays). She also serves as a general assignment reporter for the station, specializing in education issues.

Since joining NBC4 in 1995, Baldonado has covered a variety of issues affecting Southern California residents. During her tenure at the station, she has traveled to Cuba to cover Pope John Paul II's historic visit, to Sydney, Australia to cover the Summer Olympic Games and to Mexico to cover Hurricane Juliette.

Baldonado received a Los Angeles Area Emmy Award in 2008 for her work on the half-hour special, “Forgotten Neighbors,” which examines the homeless problem in Southern California. She also received one of the broadcast industry's most prestigious awards, the National Edward R. Murrow award, for her work on the half-hour special “LAUSD: Battle for Control.” The special, which also won the Regional Murrow Award in 2007, took a look at Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s attempt to take over the public school district. In that same year Radio Television News Directors Association also awarded a regional Murrow Award to Baldonado for her work on “State Divided,” a documentary focusing on immigration issues in California. During her journalism career, Baldonado has received several Golden Mikes from the Radio & Television News Association and a Mark Twain Award from The Associated Press.

Baldonado started her career as a college intern for the ABC News in its Washington, D.C. bureau. Her first full time job was as a news assistant with KGO in San Francisco, after which she moved across town to work as an assignment editor for KRON in San Francisco. At KTTV in Los Angeles, she served as a planning editor, news writer and field producer before making the switch from behind the scenes to in front of the camera at KESQ in Palm Springs where, she was a reporter and weekend anchor. A short time later, she took a reporting job with KCAL in Los Angeles before moving to NBC4 in 1995.

A native of Los Angeles, Baldonado volunteers countless hours, giving back to her community by speaking to students about the importance of education. She has also served on the Development Board of her Alma Mater, San Gabriel Mission High School, tutored homeless children as a volunteer with School on Wheels, and is currently a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles.
