Burbank police are investigating after several reports of shots fired near Bob Hope Airport.

A man who told authorities he was shot on the 5 Freeway near Bob Hope Airport in Burbank was hospitalized Friday morning after airport police stopped the man for speeding near the airport entrance.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 1800 block of Landis Street at about 2:15 a.m. Initial reports indicated the shooting might have occurred on the 5 Freeway, but Burbank police said they are investigating in the area of Morgan Avenue and Landis Street.

"At this point, it appears this is the crime scene," said Lt. J.J. Puglisi, of the Burbank Police Department.  "This is where the shooting likely occurred."

Airport police located the man in a Mercedes Benz near Hollywood Way and Thornton Avenue. Police conducted a traffic stop after noticing the speeding driver on Hollywood Way near the airport entrance.

"When the driver was contacted, they realized he was a gunshot victim," said Puglisi.

The man was hospitalized, but details regarding his condition were not immediately available.
