The department's Twitter account for the LAPD's Northeast division tweeted that it was "apparent suicide by hanging." A watch commander there confirmed at about 3 p.m. that the body was the result of a suicide.

The body was described only as male, according to City News Service.

The steep trail leading to and from the observatory is a popular hiking and walking destination.
