Bristol Palin's ex says he can win Mama Grizzly's old job

Palin's Future Son-In-Law Quits Controversial Job

Levi Johnston has quit his job at an oil field after media questioned how he got the position without a high school diploma. Palin says she pulled no strings to help her future son-in-law get the gig. (Published Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010)

Forget the Democrats, mainstream media and Katie Couric, Sarah Palin's real nemesis is a 20-year-old who first toyed with her daughter's heart and is now making a joke of her old job.

Levi Johnston's latest stunt, bound to leave Palin fuming, is running for mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, the very job that launched Palin to the Yukon state's governor's mansion and then to national fame. Johnston, a 20-year-old high school dropout with blood ties to the Palin clan, has partnered with a production crew for a new reality TV show that will follow his attempt to storm Wasilla City Hall, Variety mag reported.

Johnston, who has talked in the past of becoming an electrician, told Variety he was initially skeptical about the “Loving Levi” pitch to run for chief executive of the Anchorage suburb with a population of just over 10,000.

"But the more I think about it and look into it, I think there's a possibility we can make it happen," Johnston said. "It's something that I want to do."

While Johnston told Variety the political plot was hatched by producers, his extremely devoted manager Tank Jones wasn't quite on the same page.

"People questioned Jesus Christ, so I definitely don't care about these mere mortals questioning Levi Johnston," Jones told radaronline. "People can question whatever they want. I mean, he's going to keep on doing his thing. He was going to do this, even if this wasn't a reality show."

News of the one-time high school hockey hunk's political ambition came weeks after he and Bristol, parents of Sarah Palin's 19-month-old grandson Tripp, called off their second engagement. The pair had announced to Us Weekly magazine last month that they were back together after a frosty breakup that saw Johnston pose in Playgirl and rip the Palin matriarch in several interviews as a cunning phony. Sarah Palin and husband Todd took the news with a healthy dose of skepticism, and sure enough, the young couple didn't stay reunited for long.

"He told me [his trip to L.A.] was to see some hunting show, but come to find out it was that music video mocking my family," Bristol Palin, 19, tearfully said, adding that her ex-beau is "obsessed with the limelight."

On Sunday, Johnston was with the singer of that video, Brittani Senser, who he described as "just a friend. She's a singer."

And now Johnston seems to be moving on with the next phase of a scheme to get under Sarah Palin's skin. The Stone and Co. crew has already begun shooting a pilot for "Loving Levi: The Road to the Mayor's Office," according to Variety.

With the office, currently held by one Verne E. Rupright, is not up for grabs until 2012, Johnston’s rep turned campaign manager, Tank Jones, said Johnston might try to pick up a city council seat in the interim. Jones said Johnston could even use the office as springboard to the governorship of Alaska like a certain former GOP vice presidential candidate with her own new reality show.

Until then, Wasilla's current mayor has some advice for Johnston: "I think it would be wise for him to get a high school diploma and keep his clothes on. The voters like that." Rupright told Entertainment Tonight.
