The right hat, coat, or gown can go a long way toward telling the story on a television series. Is the character royalty? Have they arrived in a scene hoping to make a splash? And are they in love? Clothing can tell much of a tale, and the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising celebrates television's lauded costume designers each August, September, and October via a large-scale exhibit featuring over 100 costumes. "The Art of Television Costume Design" runs at the downtown school's gallery from Aug. 2 through Oct. 15, 2016 (Tuesdays through Saturdays).
