The immersive, walk-through, pose-and-take-a-pic pop-up? You wouldn't be correct if you claimed that they're "on every corner now," but, yes, they're occupying quite a few corners, and empty warehouses, and former department stores, and large tents these days, with more still to come. Thank our selfie-strong culture, and our wish to share our experiences widely, and the cameras in our pockets, too.
But, like everything under the sun, these immersive pop-ups are ripe for some prodding, some poking, and a bit of satirical sass. A group of artists will do just that, in the coming weeks, when "Nothing Cheezy," a pizza-themed show inspired by these pop-ups, opens. One main objective? "(P)utting artists back at the forefront" of the viewer's mind. A capital idea, for sure.
