Surveillance Video Released in Brutal Robbery at Smoke Shop

Police ask for help identifying alleged attacker



    Police have released video of a smoke shop robbery in Riverside. The attacker allegedly beat the store clerk with a blunt object and then raided the cash register. This video originally aired on NBC4's Today in LA on Wednesday, April 17, 2013. (Published Wednesday, April 17, 2013)

    A brutal beating was caught on video at a Riverside tobacco shop and police are now hoping a tipster can identify the alleged attacker.

    The unidentified man walked into Smoke Shop Plus on Tuesday about 12:30 p.m. and allegedly struck a female store clerk on the head several times with a hammer or mallet.

    The man, possibly a transient according to police, then raided the cash register and fled the store on foot.

    The 52-year-old victim was taken to Riverside Community Hospital in serious condition. She owns the store, located at 1788 University Ave., with her husband.

    Anyone with information about the attack was asked to contact Riverside police at 951-826-5700.
