Your job: get to the cafe. Our job: Help you find that perfect drink. This week, NBCLA's "Drink This" journey takes us out for...
The Pay It Forward Coffee: September 29th is National Coffee Day (although we suspect that about 95 percent of us think National Coffee Day is every day). Panera Bread cafes are honoring the day with a deal that allows you to pay a small kindness forward.
How does it work? Buy a coffee for yourself, get a free coffee for a friend. Your mom. The guy in the next cubicle who never, ever remembers to put his cellphone on vibrate. He needs niceness, too. Probably needs it more than most.
Price: $1.59-1.99; amount varies by location.
What's in it? There's a light roast -- a South American and Central American blend -- and a dark, which is a Costa Rican-based sip. Decaf and hazelnut are two other possibilities.
Forgot breakfast? Panera's not just a drink shop. You can put that change you save on the second cup toward breakfast. Think doughy things in which to dunk in that special coffee. The breads. So many breads. And the spinach & artichoke egg souffle is also filling and scrumptious. Eye the whole menu.
Also nice: Panera participates in the Day-End Dough-Nation program, where unsold bakery goods are packaged and given to charities and food banks at the close of every business day. Paying it forward indeed.
